Note: The EM1, EM2, and EM3 streams apply only to the fifth (P5) and sixth (P6) years of primary school --  the so-called orientaion stage. As the majority of primary students enter into the EM2 stream after their fourth year, the same color has been used for both the foundation stage (all primary students enrolled in either P1, P2, P3, or P4) and the EM2 stream of the orientation stage.

More information abou these streams can be found in Singapore Ministry of Education. Education Statistics Digest 2002. Overview of the education system. Primary education. pp. v and vi. [EARTH's online copy - PDF 6.8 MB]

Singapore's Public Secondary School Streaming - Proportional Enrolment in 2002 (Proportional Bar Chart)
Note: After sitting for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) a Singapore child enters one of four secondary streams (courses). Like the EM1 stream for primary students the special stream (course)  for secondary students is reserved for those with exceptional ability. Students in the special and express streams sit for the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (GCE) O-Level examination. Those who enter into either  the normal art or normal technology stream sit for the Singapore-Cambridge GCE N-Level examination. Students in either of the two normal streams who demonstrate exceptional ability are allowed to remain in secondary school for a fifth year in order to prepare for the GCE O-Level examination. The O-Level examination is an important academic hurdle for entry into Singapore's  post-secondary system of education and eventually a Singporean university. See EARTH's copy of the Singapore government's flow chart for its system of national education.
