Note 1: "Personal computers refers to a computer designed for individual use. Personal computers includes desktop computer, laptop/notebook computer and Personal Digital Assistant. Servers, workstations and terminals of mainframe or minicomputer are not included. Personal computers may be connected to form a Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN)."  Source: Hong Kong Government. Census and Statistics Department. Information Technology and Telecommunications Statistics Section. 2003. Hong Kong as an Information Society. Appendix A - Terms and Definitions 1.3, p. 115. Comment: An email from the Social Survey Section of CSD confirmed that both sections used the same definition for the term personal computer in their respective reports.
Note 2: "Internet is the world-wide public computer network, which provides access to a wide range of services including the world wide web, email, newsgroup and file transfer." Appendix A - Terms and Definitions 2.11, p. 117.
Note 3: The variable All households is an average of two identical calculations -- one for each source table. By dividing the value of the variable Household computer (households with a personal computer) for each year by its corresponding decimal fraction of All households (total number of households in the population at large) for each year the values for the variable All households were obtained. Doing this same operation for Internet access (households with a computer and internet access) yielded  a different set of values for the variable All households. This discrepancy is likely due to rounding error and was overcome by the aforementioned averaging technique.
