to a computer designed for individual use. Personal computers includes
desktop computer, laptop/notebook computer and Personal Digital
Assistant. Servers, workstations and terminals of mainframe or

Note 3: The variable All
households is an average of two identical calculations -- one for
each source table. By dividing the value of the variable Household
computer (households with a personal computer) for each year by its
corresponding decimal fraction of All households (total number
of households in the population at large) for each year the values for
the variable All households were obtained. Doing this same
operation for Internet access (households with a computer and
internet access) yielded a different set of values for the
variable All households. This discrepancy is likely due to
rounding error and was overcome by the aforementioned averaging
technique.
